Day 116 - USA Tour - Las Vegas, NV

Overnight: Las Vegas, NV
Sightseeing Day

When we got set up yesterday, we met a couple (in their early 40s) who just got married this week. They actually met at this campground about a year ago. They are from Canada, so Dave had a great time talking with them about genealogy. This morning we chatted with them a bit. Then, it was time to get our sightseeing under way.

We headed for the Venetian Casino. Our campground is at the south end of The Strip, just off Las Vegas Blvd. On the drive up the strip, I absorbed the sights and sounds of Vegas. And, believe you me, there are many sights to absorb, some of which I'll share later in this blog.

My one "must see" was the canals at the Venetian--this is just in case I never make it to Italy. It was a very long walk from the parking area to the interior of the hotel. We wove our way around the many shops inside (of course, there is no direct route to anything because they want you to spend, spend, spend at the shops). Finally, we found a great restaurant on the canal: Taqueria Cañonita.

The lunch was absolutely fabulous. Dave had Vaquero Beef Rib...10oz. rib chop simmered in Negra Modelo beer. Served with chorizo mashed potatoes, veal reduction and crispy onions.

Pam had Zácatecas Chile Relleno...Poblano chile stuffed w/Mexican cheeses, dried fruits, almonds, guajillo sauce, and jicima salad with lime dressing.

We are still raving about the food. Best I think I have ever had anywhere.

We had decided to go to the Blue Man Group show tomorrow night. So, after eating and enjoying the serenading Gondola drivers, we were off to obtain our ticket. This proved to be another very long jaunt. But, we finally got the tickets and, in agony from all the walking, started back to the car.

I think I put us on a suicide walking mission today, because our next stop at The Mirage casino. This casino houses Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden. The attraction is the white tigers and the dolphins. They make you park in never-never land, and I swear we walked the length of 10 football fields through the casino and over to the attraction.

We visited at a prime time. They just received 5 baby white tigers and a baby dolphin was born four days ago.

Here's some prime pictures. Of course, they don't do justice, and many were out of focus. But, I have enough pictures for me to remember the grace and beauty of these magnificent animals.

Here's some of my best dolphin pix...

Here's my best lions, and tigers, and babies pix...

We had a great time just enjoying the critters. They also had a black panther, alpacas, and parrots. The attraction had a lot of benches that we could just sit down and observe. I really think we would have had a better time if we weren't all freaked out about having to walk all that way back to the car!

Limping badly, we hobbled into the RV and took a nap.

After awakening from our slumber, we headed to a local Bistro for what we thought would be some sandwiches. It turned out to be an Italian restaurant. Because of Dave's allergy to tomatoes, it's not his favorite meal. And, although I love Italian, I found it to be a ho-hum dinner with a hefty price tag. Dave's lettuce in his salad was even frozen.

Neither of us ate much of our dinner. Just didn't hit the spot. So, we were sure we needed to wash this meal down with ice cream. Dave dropped me off at a grocery store where I made the purchase. Back at the RV, we delighted in bathing our palates with this cool and refreshing treat.

All in all, it was a great day. But, it sure wore out our pegs! I know we'll sleep good tonight!
