Overnight: Valencia, CA
Visiting Day
This morning we drove to Calabasas to visit my high school friend, Vicki, and her husband, Sean Foran.
Calabasas is a 45-minute drive, west of where we are staying. It was fun for us to drive that direction through the greater Los Angeles area and see so much growth. Los Angeles was crowded when we lived here, but now the growth has sprawled significantly westward.
I met Vicki when my mom and dad moved to West Los Angeles because my dad was put into the Veteran's Hospital there. It was my senior year in high school. I had previously gone to high school in Santa Paula, CA, which is a small town where everyone knows everyone. I had lots of friends there, and to move to West LA to attend such a huge school high school was very intimidating. Vicki befriended me, and we had a great time together. I can't remember if I first met Sean when Vicki and I were in high school or college.
During our first year at Monica City College, Vicki and I would occasionally skip one of our home economics classes on Friday and go horseback riding in Griffith's Park. Fond memories.
We all stayed close while we lived in Los Angeles and we are Godparents of some of each other's children. So, it was GREAT to catch up with them. It's been many years since we've talked, and we have not seen them since we left California in 1980.
They have a lovely home in the hills between Malibu and Calabasas. They were building this home when we left California, and believe you me, there was no development in Calabasas at the time. Now, of course, there is shopping and many homes.
After much chit-chatting and catching up, they took us to a lovely Mexican Restaurant. YUMMMMM. It was hard to say goodbye. I hope we don't lose touch this long again!
We left from there and headed back to Valencia and our RV to chill out, watch some TV, and work on the blog. I crawled into bed at 8:30 PM. Rare for me to call it quits that early, so I must have been REALLY tired. Tomorrow we drive to Pasadena to visit Dave's Navy buddy, Terry.
Sorry
