Day 112 - USA Tour - Valencia, CA

Gas Price: $3.81--Burbank, CA

Overnight: Valencia, CA
Visiting Day

Up early this morning to be in Pasadena by 10 AM to visit with Dave's Navy buddy, Terry Hellum, and his fiance, Sharon.

Again, we were stunned at the smog in Los Angeles. In the following picture, taken at the off-ramp we would take to get to our home in Sylmar, you can barely see the hills, which, by the way, are actually very close to the freeway.

Back to our visit with Terry and Sharon--We had a really nice time getting acquainted / re-acquainted with both of them. They are such nice folks and they will be married in a few weeks. We certainly wish them all the happiness. Terry had brought some Navy yearbooks with him, so Dave and Terry had a great time reminiscing about the good ol' Navy days.

Leaving Pasadena, we got lost for a little bit as we decided to go a different way home. We thought we should go to the cemetery in North Hollywood where Dave's grandparents (Sonny [Joseph Leon] and Sarah Thornton Migneault) are buried and take a picture of their headstones. We have so many other ancestors' headstone pictures, we thought it would only be fitting to get theirs as well. They were both killed in 1948 when a gas tanker truck crashed into them on their way home from visiting Dave's parents in Lancaster, CA. Dave was 4 years old at the time.

Our next stop was to drive to Burbank to see the duplex where we lived when LD was born. It was still there and hasn't changed much, other than the new paint color.

When we were first married, we lived in a mid-town area of Los Angeles in an apartment. This duplex is the second place we lived after being married. It is directly on Burbank Blvd., a very busy 4-lane street.

We drove up the hill in Burbank to try to find the Evangelical-Free church we attended and where Dave and I were baptised as adults. But, we could not find it.

After our walk down memory lane, we headed back to Valencia. We had dinner at a nice steakhouse, The Claim Jumper. We both had a prime rib special that included all the trimmings--and dessert!

With very full tummies, we headed back to the RV. Dave took a nap and I worked on the blog for a while, did some reading, and just spaced out. Tomorrow is "take care of Pam" day. So, I am looking forward to a day of pampering.
