Day 117 - USA Tour - Las Vegas, NV

Overnight: Las Vegas, NV
R&R and Night Out

This morning we didn't do much. We planned to just relax and regroup for the events tonight. Our neighbors came over in the morning and talked with Dave for a while about Canadian genealogy. After they left, Dave read a book that his cousin, Dot, had given him to read. He really enjoys being outside. It's just too hot for me.

So, I chilled inside and worked on the blog most of the day.

Here's a few pictures of the Vegas scene I took while traveling on the strip...

Seems like Dave followed this roving billboard for quite some time...Good thing he didn't have a pencil and paper in his hand!

Here's some of the building going on...

We had decided to splurge and go out for dinner at one of the upscale restaurants in the Venetian. After checking the cuisine, we settled on Emeril Lagasse's Delmonico Steakhouse. A plus--it is right across from the entrance into the Blue Man Group theater--so no extra walking!

We had 5 PM reservations. It's quite special to be treated so royally. The food was excellent--but we didn't expect less. The steaks just melted in your mouth. For us, this was a last big splurge.

We were done in just the right amount of time. We walked over to the theater for the show. We were in row 5, center. So, great seats. We were first greeted with clear plastic ponchos that we were to don. As we settled in, stage hands with heads wrapped in what amounted to crepe-paper type strips appeared at the end of each row of seats. They did not speak, but reeled off hideous amounts of this paper and showed us that they wanted us to pass it down the row and take off a piece to wrap around our own heads.

Dave, as you can see, was right in the swing of things!

If you have never seen the Blue Man Group, I'll explain briefly that they are a pantomime comedy and musical group. That's about all I can say because it would be just too difficult to explain. Here's a video clip of one of the performances we saw tonight. There is sound, so be forewarned. After you click the link and view the video, click the BACK button or back arrow on your Internet Browser to get back to this blogClick Here.

At the end of the show, massive streams of paper are rolled off reels from the ceiling in the back of the auditorium. These streams quickly become massive wads of paper which we are to hike over our heads and pass forward to the stage. These wads of paper are used in the finale. And, here's some pictures of the remnants. I'd sure hate to be on that clean-up crew!

Our seats, after the performance...

Looking up the stairs to exit...

Dave in awe after the performance...

After this performance, we walked and walked through the casino to get to the Club Gazie area. This is where the casino gave us $25 each to spend in one-arm bandits because we attended a show in the casino. It was a pain to walk over there, but $25 free is $25 free. That's all I wanted to spend gambling. We are just not that lucky to spend our own funds!!

Anyway, Dave didn't want to play his own $25, so I played both of our $25 rewards. I drug out the playing by only betting one 25-cent pull at a time. So, this amounts to 100 pulls for each reward. And, would you believe we won a total of $64 dollars. Not bad for not spending any money!

We trudged back to the car, limping all the way. It was so beautiful outside to see all the glittering lights, so we took a drive up the strip and back down toward the RV.

Most of my night pictures didn't come out. Still working on finding the right settings. I must have tried 5 different ones. But to take pics at night, you just have to be very still. Because we were in the car, the pictures came out blurry. Here's a couple of them that turned out OK...

This city is packed with people all wanting to drop loads of money in hopes of striking it rich, and this town is very willing to take every bit that they want to drop! But, it was fun to see Vegas again. It has its own flavor and excitement. Nowhere else is there anything like it. The city has changed drastically since 1980.

I must say, too, that I was overwhelmed at the buildings going up. I did hear a report while here, though, that the casinos have had a sharp decline in earnings. I guess down about 13%. I sure hope they don't have to do a "short sell" to pay for these billion dollar ventures. That would be a pity! Hee Hee
