We awoke early this morning to birds singing--a nice song, but decided to go back to sleep for a bit. The weather was so nice yesterday that we were able to open the windows and leave them open all night.
We packed up and were out of the campground in 1.5 hours, which is fast for us. We did head over to Rico's restaurant for breakfast. It was crowded because of Father's Day. Dave had a potato pancake breakfast and I had a waffle breakfast. I tried a new meat, at least to me, called "side pork." It was essentially very thick bacon. A little tough, but tasty. Always up for trying something new--as long as it is not fish!
We had to take a lot of back roads to get to The Dells (Wisconsin Dells) because of floods and closed roads. But, the ride was pretty. We went from very flat farming terrain to gentle hills.
This picture is of one of a couple of areas where we had to drive through water.
I have attached a few pictures to show flooded farms. Ya'll be prepared for higher corn costs. Many farmers lost all of their crops. If they replant, the crops will be late.
The water in the second picture is farm land that is completely submerged. The lighter strip of green between the water and the farm is this farmer's crop.
We arrived at the campground at about 2:30 PM. I like the tag line of this park: "For the Older Kids." This area is much more of an attraction area than I would have imagined. The streets are loaded with amusement parks.
Here's a picture of a roller coaster as you enter town. This should give you an idea. So, the fact that this park doesn't cater to kids and doesn't allow tents, keeps it quiet and tranquil for us older kids!
The campground is very nice. It's right across the river from the "tourist" area. We will be here for at least 5 nights as there is much to see within an hour's drive.
We are approximately 1 mile from Lake Delton. This is where the dam broke and 5 houses washed away. The lake is now high and dry. I have provided a couple of video clips of the news broadcasts, if you are interested.
Here is a picture of one of the houses with the dry lake. It will be about a year before the dam can be rebuilt, according to the Governor.
I made a late lunch of sandwiches, so doubt we'll have a formal dinner--more like snacking. Dave's napping and I'm busy trying to figure out how we can see everything there is to see here.
My laptop is not working with the WiFi at this campground, at least so far. So, I have to use Dave's laptop when he's elsewhere. I won't be able to get emails either, unless I figure out the secret! Bah Humbug.
We have visited with quite a few neighbors tonight. Got lots of tips on how to get around closed roads and sites to see westward. It's getting cool, so Dave and I came indoors and are settled in for the night. Nighty Night!
