Overnight: Marengo, ILKick-back Day
Today we decided we'd do the laundry and I thought I'd straighten up a bit. There are a few items that haven't found a "home" in the RV yet, so wanted to get that done. Also, I needed to finalize the Chicago sightseeing as there were quite a few things I thought we'd do, but now realize it's too much. Maybe one day we'll be back to do those things we couldn't fit into the current agenda.
So, we packed up the laundry and went to the clubhouse. When we arrived, they told us that their sewer system was down and we couldn't do laundry. Well, because we had decided not to sightsee today, we were too late to go back to Plan A. Chicago activities are about 1 to 2 hours from our campground. There are no campgrounds that are close to the city that have the amenities that we want.
Check the "view" we have from our spot. But, to be honest, it's not that bad (they picked up the garbage today). We have stayed in nicer campgrounds, but this place is acceptable. I just think they ask too much money for the condition of the campground. But, at least we have the necessary luxuries: WiFi and Cable TV!
In addition to many campers here, there are a lot of folk that live here full time. As you can see, some of them have created lean-to's that attach to their RVs (see the RV in the background). Some folks also have what's called a Park Model. These are a cross between an RV and a mobile home. They can be moved behind a truck, but are typically not used for camping. They are a more permanent type RV.
We ventured into Marengo (about 5 miles away) to find a laundromat. On the way, we spotted a great little Mexican diner. We stopped for lunch before going to the laundromat. Yum. It was so very good. They had the best baked cheese "dip" that you spread on tortillas and roll up. Yum, again.
At the laundromat, we dropped some big bucks on those big washers. But, we got it done. We had a great time visiting with some of the locals. One was a young farmer's wife with 4 children. She was a delight, but what a different life she lives.
We came home and took a nap (so I didn't get too much put away). I wasn't feeling too well yesterday, nor today. So, the nap did wonders--even though Dave said I snored so loud that the Rock of Gibraltar must have moved! I crocheted a bit on the blanket for the reunion. I sure hope I get my
stitch done
in time!
