Overnight: Green Bay, WI
Radisson Hotel
Geez, you'd think with having everything in our RV, it wouldn't be a hassle to pack for a few nights' stay at a hotel. But, oh, you'd be so wrong. It took us about 2 hours to pack and lots to tote. I even had the list of things to take all completed. I kept saying to Dave, we are only 10 miles away, maybe we should just scrap the hotel idea. But, truth be told, it's much more fun to stay where everyone gathers.
We had to wait a little bit for the roving dumper to get to us before we could leave. The campground doesn't have sewer lines that we can hook up to. So, on Thursdays and Mondays they have a sewer pumping truck that comes around and pumps the "stuff" from your RV's holding tanks right into their mobile sewer truck. I know, this sounds icky. But,it's so different from anything we've ever experienced, I just "had" to record it in my journal. Sorry.
After the pumping, we were ready to roll and so we were off, sort of--we had to stop at Wal-Mart for a few essentials. Then, we stopped for a Mexican lunch. We arrived at the hotel at 3 PM.
The Radisson is really a nice hotel. But, attached to the east end of the building is the Oneida Casino. And, detached, but at the west end of the building, is the Oneida Bingo Building. Yup, the hotel is on the Oneida Indian Reservation, all of which is across from the Green Bay airport.
When we arrived, we, once again, have a room about as far as you can get from the goings-on area. I thought I had asked for something close, but alas.
When we first walked in, I was hit in the face with cigarette smoke oozing from the casino. We are at the far west end of the complex and the casino is at the far east end. But, it just oozes everywhere. ICK. Once inside, you kind of get used to it, but not sure I'll even venture into the gaming area. I had hoped to pull an arm or two on the bandits, but may "just say no!"
We sat in the hospitality suite for a couple of hours this afternoon and talked with a couple who are attending for the first time. Also visited with some folks we have seen at other reunions.
All the Navy guys bring their memorabilia to share. We all sit around tables that seat about 10 and the men share war stories and try to outdo each other with a better story. The wives just sit there and listen to them jockey for position. It's rather amusing, but we do enjoy listening to their experiences.
Tomorrow we take a tour of Door County. It's supposed to be a scenic area. I can't remember all the things we are supposed to do on the tour, but we leave at 9 AM and don't return until 5:30 PM. So, we'll be good and tired. There were so many folks that signed up for this tour, that there are 3 tour bus loads. We are on the second bus, so we don't have to be downstairs until 9 AM. Better than 8 AM!
Dave is napping and I'm starting to get hungry, so we'll be heading back to the central area for vittles, after I get up the nerve to wake him! It's 8:30 PM, so it's time--at least as far as I'm concerned. And, as he's always telling me, "It's all about ME!"
Sorry
