Travel Day
This morning we got a late start. After packing and dumping, we didn't get off until 10:45 AM. Both Dave and I had one of those mornings where we did everything out of sync. But, we finally got on the road. We asked for a more intense traveling mercy today, given our rough start!
We stopped for lunch at a town, I guess, named after the one and only building in the town--Happy Inn. It was a restaurant, grocery store, laundry, shower facility, bathroom, and not sure what else. It was kind of a biker-type hangout. But, they sure had yummy hamburgers.
We are heading in toward more fires. When we left West Glacier and got near Kalispell, we could hardly see the mountains ahead. During lunch, we watched helicopters dip water out of the lake that was about 200 yards down the road. It started to rain and lightning, and we had rain off and on the rest of the trip.
As you can tell from the scenic picture, the air was thick with smoke. But, we didn't see any fires. We traveled in three states today: Montana, Idaho, and Washington. The terrain was mildly hilly most of the day.
We had tentatively planned to stop at Bonners Ferry for the night, but when we arrived there, Dave decided he wanted to drive on to Spokane. So, I made reservations, and I was glad that we did. There was only one pull-through spot left.
We arrived safe and sound (thanks God for the mercies) at about 4:00 Pacific Time. We had read on www.rvparkreviews.com that this place was not the greatest and could use a fixing up--spaces small, etc. But, when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. It's really nice. Paved streets, brick patios, paved parking sites, enclosed pool, picnic tables that convert to a bench with a back, etc. But, reviewers were correct in one aspect, the spaces are narrow. However, the owner told us exactly how to park on the site pads so that we would have room for our slideout. In addition, there are bushes between each site, kind of giving you more privacy--albeit the bushes do touch your windows if you have slideouts.
Dave was beat after the long 6-hr drive. That's really too much for him to do, and I do try to discourage him, but alas. We are here in Spokane to visit some friends--Pixie and Oscar. Dave and Oscar were in the Navy together, so he has known him since 1963--45 years. I met Pixie in 1966, when Dave and I were dating. Pixie is still teaching school, so they were unable to make it to the Navy reunion in Green Bay this year. We'll get together with them in the morning.
Dave and I went out for a Mexican dinner at a local restaurant. I just love the Chili Rellenos that the west coast prepares. You just can't get them the same in Georgia. So, yummy!
Have a great day! Talk with you later.
Sorry
