Overnight: West Glacier, MT
A Just Doin' Stuff Day
To start off your reading, I thought I'd share this great picture of some wild berries that grow all around us in the campground. I don't know what kind they are, but I'm told not Huckleberries. I hope to find out tomorrow.
I slept in until 8:30 AM this morning as I wanted to finish the blog last night before going to bed. At 1:40 AM, I was done. Did my last spell-check and I lost half of what I had already saved in the blog entry. With that, I gave up and went to bed--very frustrated.
I re-entered all the information this morning, and then we went out for breakfast. By the time I finished, it was 10:30, so we rushed out the door. The place we went was just OK. Nothing to brag about. And, the food was so greasy, I couldn't eat much. But, what I did, didn't settle well at all. So, I was feeling icky most of the day.
My sweet husband spied another "baby" for me at the gift shop. She's a mountain goat. Her name is Roche (with an accent mark over the "e"--but in this blog program I can't create that character). Her name is pronounced RO-SHAY. And, it means rock. Appropriate for a rock-climbing goat, wouldn't you say?
Here's some pictures of Roche and siblings.
She seems to be getting along with her new-found siblings, Mini and Smookie.
Our next stop was at the Alberta, Canada, visitor's center. We thought we'd pick up a bit of literature before crossing the border, should we venture that way. Still not 100% sure yet.
We received a call from Dennis that they were coming over. He said he had some pictures of the family that his mother, Mabel, wanted to give to Dave.
On the way back to the RV, I took a better picture of the helicopter we rode in yesterday. I'm still overwhelmed by our experience and the vistas.
When Dennis arrived, his girlfriend, Lynn was with him. They only wanted to stay a short time as they were going to the lake for a swim. They stayed for about an hour and Dave's sharing was non-stop. He was so excited I just couldn't get him to stop sharing!
We found out some information that we never expected. Dennis is a whole generation behind Dave; yet, Dennis is 4 years younger than Dave. Instead of being second cousins, Dennis and Dave are first cousins, once removed. We were shocked that Anthony (Dennis' father) was 22 years younger than his brother, Sonny (Dave's grandfather).
Here's Dave's lineage of Dave and Dennis (I had to insert leader dots to keep it all aligned--spaces don't hold in this program, sorry):
.........................Antione
....Joseph (Sonny) ........Anthony .....Brothers--22 yrs apart.
....Reuben (Lee) ..........Dennis
....Dave
But, the best news of all, was that Dennis brought Dave a picture of his great-grandmother, Denise Marie (buried under the name of Mary D. Migneault). Dave is so jazzed.
Dennis also brought a picture of Anthony and some of the other family members. So cool.
After they left, we drove to Wal-Mart in Kalispell (about 35 miles away). It was the closest one. If we do go into Canada, we would not be able to get our prescriptions filled there without a lot of hassle. And, we sure don't want Dave to run out of insulin!
I fixed some left-over baked bean with Li'l Smokies and added some ground beef and onion, served it over onion bread, and included a fruit and lettuce salad.
Dave has collapsed from exhaustion. I think all of this ancestor fact-gathering has really worn him out mentally. Now, he can relax until we get to the Washington/Oregon coast where he will try to get a death certificate for his great-grandfather, Antione.
All for now. Blessings to all. Sleep tight.
Sorry
