Overnight: Ennis, MT
Sightseeing Day:
- Virginia City, MT
- Nevada City, MT
Again we ventured in to town for another dose of Indian bread for breakfast. A double-yum. I really didn't feel like doing much today as I was feeling icky from the cold bug. So, we decided to drive to Virginia City and see if it was worth taking a day to visit.
The terrain of the drive was unexpected. Because we were in a valley, I thought the drive would be the same. But, alas, it's up in the hills. We enjoyed more vistas and antelope grazing along side the road. (Excuse the blotches in the sky; those are bugs on the windshield.)
As you can see from the following pictures, this town is in a rough state. We drove around snapping pictures. Then, we found ourselves taking the scenic route up in the hills where the residents roam. Why anyone would want to live here is far beyond my comprehension.
The buildings were interesting, but not enough to make me come back another day when I am feeling better. But, we can say we have been to Virginia City and Nevada City. The towns are about 1/4-mile apart. And, Nevada City buildings are as they were in the 1890s--untouched. They are gathering funds to preserve them.
After seeing the following sign, I looked up the trial. It was interesting, if not a bit confusing. So, now I know. Here's a link to George Ives if you are so inclined to read the story.
We headed back down the mountain to Ennis. We stopped to enjoy the view of Ennis in the valley.
On the way down, we saw many antelope walking and napping in the grass. But, this one I caught at an inopportune time. I hope you will get a laugh out of it. There is just no privacy in the prairie--and his face says it all!
I didn't feel like cooking supper, so we found a pizza place in town. We ordered it and then drove to pick it up. We sat out on the picnic table and enjoyed the view and great weather. It was a bit warm, but there is a great breeze, and very low humidity.
With that, I'll say good night, y'all.
Sorry
