Up late this morning as we only had a few miles to drive. So, we didn't want to get into Rapid City too early. We did the usual packing and dumping and were off at 10:00 AM.

The terrain this morning quickly rose to hills. The trees turned to pines and the prairie grasses disappeared.

We arrived in Rapid City at 11 AM, and decided it was too early to check in. So, we found a Perkins, but it was too difficult to get into their parking lot. So, we opted for a Denny's nearby. After our breakfast, we headed to the campground. But, we took a scenic route--yup, got lost. We arrived about 1 PM and settled in. The sites are small, but comfortable--especially with the cement pad and covered patio/picnic table area.

Dave settled in to bird watch. I did some house (I mean "RV") cleaning before we got too settled for the week. I must have drained about 2 quarts of water from my body just vacuuming. Of course, that gave me a heat headache, so I wasn't in the mood to cook.

We drove downtown to scope out the area and to find a unique restaurant. We ended up at the Firehouse Brewing Co. We had seen their billboards on the way into Rapid City. They had real old fire engines stuck in the ground, nose down; or they had fire engines on top of their billboards; or they had fire engines vertically planted in the ground, nose up. So, we thought it would be interesting. The food was good, and interesting. Kind of a little off-beat for us. But, tasty.

On the way back, stopped at the office for our nightly ice cream cones.

This evening, I busied myself trying to plan the attractions to do each of the 8 days we plan to be here--with all there is to do, maybe it will be longer. OK all for tonight. Have a great Sunday tomorrow.
